Opinions on YMCA yoga class?
ISS-UH asked:
I have really wanted to take yoga for the longest time and I now have the funds to pay for a yoga class. I found two classes at the YMCA… . Has anyone taken the 7 week course at the ymca? Is it worth the $77 or should I just watch a DVD.
I really want to have an instructor though is the thing….but I don’t want it to be worthless in the end.
Also I’m 17 …so would I probably be the youngest in the class?
Just tell me your experiences….!

I am interested in opening a Bikram Yoga studio. Anyone been through the process?
amygreeneintl asked:
I work full time as a financial advisor. I have been a Bikram student for about 2 years and have been told I am a prime candidate for teacher training. I would love to open a studio and leave my current job but there is not much information about the profitabilty until you’ve gone through training already and committed to the process. I would like to know about anyones experiences.

I am doing my best to avoid eating disorder behaviors?
Cassie-DANE lover asked:
ok. so I am trying very hard to lose weight w/o using eating disorder behaviors that are see-able to teachers
so
I am excersising like hell…I want to always be working out when I am home tho. like when watching tv doing leg lifts, crunches, pushups and doing small weights (5, 10, 15)
I want to have an awesome body
I am allowed to be 140 at the least
BUT
I need to do it by working out…
I need as many tips as you can give me!
this is my workout plan:
Sunday-
AM: jog 2 blocks with my dog Meri
PM. 20 push ups, 50 crunches, 2 30 second planks, and 50 leg lifts
Monday-
AM: Jog with my dog Bella
PM: Strength training video with arm weights
Tuesday:
AM: yoga
PM: a 45 minute walk with both dogs
Wednesday:
AM: Jog with my dog Meri
AM: an ab toning video
Thursday:
AM: 20 push ups, 50 crunches, 2 30 second planks, and 50 leg lifts
PM: 45 minute walk with my dog Bella
Friday:
AM: Pilate’s
PM: 45 minute walk with Meri
general rules:
every day do 8 minute abs, arms, and legs
when on the computer, sit on the big exercise ball, as well as when doing home work
always sit up straight
(when I watch tv witch is rarely) leave remote on tv so I have to get up to change the channel
always keep my leg moving-might as well burn calories while I sit
^^^will doing that plus working out whenever I get a free moment help me?
like I said
any and all tips are welcomed. once we go grocery shopping I can work on my eating too. but for now we are stuck with frozen pizza, cereal, and peanut butter and bread
with drinks being milk and bottled water

Yoga: 1) how many times a week is optimal? 2) do I still need cardio workouts?
painterofmodernlife asked:
Some months ago, I began going to 60-minute yoga clases for about three times a week. I’ve loved it, and now want to make yoga part of my life and work hard to improve my abilities, etc. My two questions are:
1) My life is such that practicing every day feels impossible. Is three times a week enough for real improvement? I don’t need to become ‘as good’ as an elite instructor, but I do want to excel.
2) I know some strong, sculpted people who seem to make yoga their only form of exercise. Can I reap cardiovascular benefits from yoga also, to the degree that I don’t need, say, running workouts anymore?

discomfort in yoga?
OrdinaryGirl23 asked:
I just had my first class on wednesday so obviously I knew I was going to be sore, espically cause I do karate for two hours right after yoga. when i woke up this morning i felt like I was hit by a truck.
but anyways, we were doing the breathing and such and I got super light headed, and my instructor said it was normal for the first few weeks to be light headed since we are learning to breathe. No problem with that… except that when I go to do karate I am really dizzy.
okay so my real question, do any of you experience neck pain in yoga? I feel like I pulled something in my neck while doing the postions and having my head on the ground. I can’t move it a little forward and backward without it hurting a lot.
maybe i’m not doing something right?

I have a yoga question?
!*!SMOKE fan!*! asked:
I have started yoga with my mother in law, about 3 weeks now. Our instructor gave us a question sheet to define what type we correspond to: Vata, Pitta, or Kapha. I am Pitta. Is there a website I can look at to tell me what Pitta means? Thanks!

Is yoga right for me?
Jedi asked:
I’m 300 pounds overweight, and can barely touch my toes. I can’t even do one push up or one chip up. Trying to get on the floor to do even one push up is impossible for me.
I’ve heard good things about yoga in recent years. I am trying to loose weight, and am very interested in yoga. But I’m not flexible enough to join a class. I’ve tried to do some videos on my own but I can’t even get close to some of the positions the instructor can do then I get frustrated and give up.
Is there any videos out there for fat people or very inflexible people?
I really want to take up yoga because I have a lot of back and joint pain and have been told it would help my joint and back pain tremendously.
I really can’t afford to take a class at a yoga stuido-plus I’d feel out of place being around a bunch of skinny, way more flexible people than me right now. Maybe after a couple months of doing yoga at home and I can at least keep up with the class (and money providing) I’ll take a few.
What are some good yoga videos for me to do? Is yoga even right for me? Do I need to lose 100 pounds first and/or would yoga help me in my weight loss goals?
I already know that weight loss is more than just eating right-it’s about working out, eating well and a well balanced workout and diet plan. I know that already, and I’m already doing it. I just want to know:
Is yoga right for me? Will yoga help round out my weight loss plan? If I keep doing yoga long enough will I become just as flexibale as at least half the people I see in the yoga classes? Are there videos out there I can watch and work out too that will help me become better at yoga and-
Will doing yoga the best I can help ease my back and joint pain?
