Best Yoga for?

cjj1984 asked:

Two part question.

First what is the best type of yoga for overall body strength and flexibility.

Second what dvd(s) Are the best or which instructor.

Im not interested in the over 60 yoga or get your heart rate elevated slightly for 15 mins in the morning.

I need something for STRENGTH and FLEXIBILITY i wish to apply it to my at home martial art training inplace of some weight training . Huge bonus for for extra stuff on leg flexibility and leg dexterity .

What qualities do you look for in a good yoga teacher?

Oxnard Montalvo asked:

I am currently enrolled in a training and certification program, and thought I’d ask some opinions. What do you like/dislike about teachers? In a general, eclectic session, do you place importance more on meditation/breathing or fitness? What are some bad habits you have seen before, and what did the best yoga teacher you ever had do that was so special?

Yoga, Pilates Instruction Question?

Peaceful Dove asked:

I’m thinking about taking some classes in Yoga or Pilates and the thing is that I found out that the instructor has no certification/training, they are completely self-taught and yet they are teaching classes to the general publlic. Do you need to be certified to teach classes like this? It happens to be sponsored by a local historical/recreation type center.

Which style of Yoga is best to study?

Christina asked:

I have done extensive research online and Im down to a few choices. I had an injury to my back that ViniYoga has helped me deal with it. I have found my true calling in teaching this style (therapy at least) and giving up my design career that required long sitting hours. Studying ViniYoga requires a teacher training certificate a lot of times (and its extremely expensive), so which STYLE of Yoga would be a good transition to therapy-based programs? Any ideas of where to study? Which style is best suited for someone inflexible and not into crazy poses? I have an ashram in the Bahamas in mind (actually cheaper in costs than ones here in CA), maybe LMU, Santa Barbara Yoga Center, Yoga Adventure in Hawaii, Yoga Blend in Burbank, CA - Larry Payne’s program. Oh and any help on where to find financial assistance for these programs do tell…..Please help. I WISH i could afford the ViniYoga Institute ($10K for 8 weeks) but thats not realistic.
I do know of the posture people Egoscue and Esther Gokhale - but dont think they “train” people. I need to know where to start - although this would be a great supplement in addition to learning basics. I def decided NOT to train at an ashram btw :)

Would Yoga be good with my health issues?

Jackie Blue asked:

Two and a half years ago, I had a partial hip replacement. Two weeks ago, I had the Nissan Fundoplication surgery for hiatal hernia. I read where Yoga is very good, but I still suffer from some pain, with sciatic joint pain after the hip replacement. Would Yoga help me, and how long would I have to wait after this most recent surgery to begin a yoga plan. If I take a Yoga class, would I need to tell an instructor in order to know what I should and should not do? There are a few physical movements that my orthepedic doctor told me I should never do, in order to keep my replacement from popping out of socket. Any suggestions would be appreciative.

Do prenatal yoga teachers have to be certified?

Chris B asked:

I was just told by someone that the instructor for my wifes prenatal yoga class is not certified. I know yoga instructors have different certifications, and I want my wife to be instructed by someone who is trained properly.

am i ready to begin yoga teacher training?

Jolene asked:

I have been practising yoga on and off for 5-6 years and ‘properly’ 2-5 times a week for the past 6 months. I am a buddhist and lead a life consistent with the yoga sutras.
I have experience of dynamic, hatha and some ashtanga primary series yoga. I am very flexible and can do most postures but struggle with headstand due to past collar bone injury. I dont know the primary series off by heart but have good knowledge.
I am very keen and feel I am ready to begin the year long training to be of an adequate level - what do you think?

I want to go to my first yoga class, but I’m scared I’m going to fart or something?

Just Me asked:

Can someone just tell me what I can expect to happen? If I can’t do the moves is the instructor going to yell at me? Also, I’m having a hard time lint rolling ALL of the cat hair off my black gym pants…….is that really gross?
